"Spending a day on the water is the ultimate source of relaxation for me," expresses Capser. "In 'A Quiet Place' I wanted to relive that feeling as well as the wonderful excitement you feel when you find the perfect ripple, see a rise and then place the fly in a place where the current will drift the bait over the spot where the trout is feeding. The intensity of the moment is what I sought to capture. That moment includes the anticipation of the strike and the concentration required to feel the slightest nibble coming through the rod to your hand. And, of course, the never-ending thought... this could be the one that got away last time."
"The painting of this piece also extended into the still life 'Gone Fishing.' When I was a boy, my Dad would often wake me at dawn and whisper, 'Mike. Get dressed and let's go catch breakfast.' I would grab the pole and reel off the wall pegs to walk with Dad to one of our favorite pools. We enjoyed the quiet of the early day and the time spent together. Yes, that pole and reel were as important to me as any piece of art on the wall and to this day, I fondly remember catching breakfast with Dad." |
